Icho Namiki – Ginkgo Avenue in Aoyama

The other day when I was lamenting that autumn seemingly passed me by while I was billing incredible hours at the office or traveling in Myanmar, I realized that this weekend was a gorgeous weekend and a perfect day to go out and check out the foliage. Tokyo’s leaves actually turn a little later than my hometown of Baltimore, and the best foliage in this area is actually around now, although it’s earlier farther north. I was still “on call” for a deal so didn’t want to venture too far from home (plus I had some major packing to do) so I went a mere three stops from my apartment to Icho Namiki, or Ginkgo Avenue, in Aoyama.

Icho Namiki is famous for its ginkgo trees that create a brilliant amber avenue this time of year. Unfortunately it was also a three-day weekend, Monday being Japanese Thanksgiving holiday, that the street was, as usual, teeming with people, mostly photographer as well as parents with their dressed up children attempting to take the perfect Christmas card photo.
